This is the last of the early papers which offered little in terms of feedback.
Apart from the pass rate and a list of pathologies which were encountered, the examiners only made three lines of comments regarding candidate performance. These three lines have been exactly the same lines for several years: "common problems encountered related to examination technique, detection of clinical signs, interpretation of clinical signs, identification of clinically significant issues and factual knowledge". These words of wisdom were finally abandoned in late 2005-early 2006.
Cases encountered as hot cases included patients with:
· multiple trauma, chest trauma, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, out-of –hospital cardiac arrest, vasculitis with renal failure, respiratory failure, renal sepsis, cerebral haemorrhage, hypoxic cerebral injury, cardiogenic shock after cardiac surgery
Sixteen out of twenty-eight candidates passed this section.
