Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia

Massive transfusion and haemostatic resuscitation.

A 35-year-old woman, gravida 2, para 1, who is 30 weeks pregnant, has been admitted to your ICU with pre-eclampsia. Her blood pressure is 160/100 mmHg treated with hydralazine and  metoprolol  prior  to  her  admission.

A 30 year old man  has  been  admitted to hospital  with  severe  multiple  injuries following a motor vehicle accident.

A 65 year old male with a past history of  ischaemic heart disease is admitted to the ICU after a motorcycle crash having sustained  long bone fractures of the lower limbs. He has no head, chest  or abdominal injuries.

Multiple myeloma, hyperviscosity syndrome and plasmapheresis
